Like Adventure? The Challenge More people speak Mandarin Chinese than any other language on earth. The dominant academic, political, and trade language of our times, however, is not Mandarin, but English. In recent times, China’s leaders have put out a call for thousands of teachers to instruct students in English. Many teachers from English-speaking countries around the world have responded and found their students eager to learn. This unprecedented opening in China has led to other opportunities. Like their counterparts all over the world, Chinese students often ask questions going beyond the boundaries of their classrooms. You’ve probably heard them before:
Relationships between students and their teachers in China are often as close as that between a parent and child. Students are encouraged and expected to seek out their teachers after class for guidance and to ask questions and receive answers which will shape their lives. Teachers For China has been sending men and women into China for over 20 years to teach English in colleges, universities, and primary schools. Our organization has earned a reputation for supplying teachers of good character and high standards whose students can rely on creative methods and broad applications of the language. Our English Teachers vary in age from young adults to retirees. Young people bring excitement and freshness and sometimes an ability to pick up the Chinese language easier. Older generations find that the culture has a tradition of respect for the experience and wisdom that age brings. Many of our teachers have made great sacrifices to leave the security of professional careers; but they will also tell you that nothing is as satisfying as obeying the Lord’s call to represent Him with this people He deeply loves. Since our first teachers went out to Southern China in 1982, we have been successful at placing people throughout China. We are truly multinational, with teachers coming from virtually all the English speaking countries of the world. Because of their commitment, thousands of Chinese men and women, some from minority nationalities, have come to know Jesus Christ as Lord. Qualifications The most important qualification is a desire to serve. A college degree and a certification to teach English as a second language are considered valuable credentials, in addition to any experience the candidate might already have in teaching English. There is no requirement to be able to speak Chinese, although it can be a huge advantage for daily living. As mentioned above, age is not a critical factor, but one must be in good health. The Job Teachers can expect 12 to 18 classroom hours per week. Teachers are provided with free accommodation on campus. The actual tasks in the classroom vary enormously from place to place. Foreigners may be asked to teach conversational skills, listening comprehension, writing, reading, literature and Western culture. Teachers are recommended to bring materials and books, as well as any other teaching aids that they have to supplement classrooms which are not as fully equipped as those in the West. An ability to generate enthusiasm in the subject will win over students and fellow teachers alike. Services We Provide
This opportunity to live in China is much more than just an opportunity to teach English. It is an opportunity to share your life with people who have never known or enjoyed the privileges we take for granted. The primary need is for mature men and women who know the Rock on which they stand, and whose leaf is always green – even during times of drought. Precious opportunities to share with students and colleagues will come to those who know how to give of themselves and inspire trust. The richest harvest field in the world is waiting for those who hear their Master telling them to "Go!" Our goal is to enable born-again men and women to teach in China. If you love the Lord and are endeavoring to submit your life to the authority of His Word and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we invite you to consider joining our fellowship working across this vast and ancient land. But be forewarned: it will change your life!
